Property dualism posits that while there is only one kind of substance (physical), there are two kinds of properties: mental and physical. Mental properties cannot be reduced to or explained by physical properties alone, even though both are generated by the same physical entity, the brain. This theory suggests that human persons are entirely physical but possess non-physical mental properties that are irreducible to physical explanations.
